Overview

Overview

The Ubiquiti UniFi AP AC Mesh is a compact outdoor mesh access point built for wide-area wireless coverage where cable infrastructure is limited or impractical. Its slim, weatherproof form factor (353 × 46 × 34.4mm, 152g) supports wall, pole, and fast-mount installation — and with multi-hop mesh networking, a single wired UniFi AP can extend coverage through up to four wireless downlinks on a single band, no additional cabling required.

Simultaneous dual-band 802.11ac with 2×2 MIMO on both 5 GHz (867 Mbps) and 2.4 GHz (300 Mbps) delivers 1,167 Mbps aggregate throughput and 250+ concurrent clients up to 183m (600 ft). Removable dual-band omni antennas allow optional directional or sector antenna upgrades for focused coverage. Powered at just 8.5W over standard 802.3af PoE — the most energy-efficient AP in the UniFi range.

Key highlights

  • Multi-hop mesh — one wired AP supports up to four wireless downlinks
  • Weatherproof outdoor design — -30 to 70°C operating range
  • Removable dual-band omni antennas — swap for optional directional or sector antennas
  • Wall, pole, and fast-mount compatible
  • 600 ft (183m) outdoor range
  • Standard 802.3af PoE at just 8.5W — compatible with any PoE switch
  • 250+ concurrent clients
  • Zero Handoff Roaming for seamless client mobility
  • CE, FCC, IC certified

Recommended for

  • Outdoor mesh networks — parks, car parks, campuses, and large outdoor areas with minimal cable infrastructure
  • Temporary installations — festivals, outdoor events, and concerts requiring fast deployment and teardown
  • PoE-constrained environments — 8.5W on standard 802.3af works with any PoE switch, no PoE+ required
  • Flexible antenna deployments — swap included omni antennas for optional sector or directional antennas to tailor coverage

Deployment

Deployment scenarios

  • Mesh multi-hop — large outdoor areas with minimal cabling infrastructure (parks, car parks, open campuses) can use mesh multi-hop to extend coverage through up to four wireless downlinks from a single wired AP.
  • Omnidirectional coverage (indoors/outdoors) — the included adjustable dual-band omni antennas provide wide-area 360° coverage suitable for conference halls, outdoor plazas, and mixed-use environments.
  • Directional coverage (outdoors) — optional sector antennas provide focused, long-range outdoor coverage for bridging between buildings or covering narrow corridors.
  • Temporary installations — lightweight, fast-mount compatible design makes it ideal for events, festivals, and temporary outdoor deployments requiring quick setup and teardown.

Mounting options

Mount type Details
Wall mount Standard wall installation — hardware included
Pole mount Round or square pole installation — hardware included
Fast mount Compatible with Ubiquiti high-gain antenna fast mounts for antenna swaps

Antenna options

The UAP-AC-M ships with two removable dual-band omni antennas (2.4 GHz: 3 dBi, 5 GHz: 4 dBi). These can be replaced with optional Ubiquiti sector or directional antennas for tailored outdoor coverage. Use the fast-mount adapter to connect to high-gain Ubiquiti antenna products.

Outdoor cabling

For outdoor deployments, Ubiquiti TOUGHCable is recommended — a shielded outdoor Cat5e/Cat6 cable with an integrated ESD drain wire designed to protect network equipment from electrostatic discharge damage. Available in PRO (Cat5e) and CARRIER (Cat6) variants in 304.8m (1,000 ft) reels.

Software

Managed by UniFi Network

The UAP-AC-M is fully managed through the UniFi Network application — the same centralised platform used across all UniFi access points, switches, and gateways. Configure, monitor, and update from a single interface on-site or via UniFi Cloud, with no per-device licensing fees. The controller can be deployed on-premises, in a private cloud, or as a public cloud service.

Core capabilities

  • Multi-hop mesh management — configure and monitor wireless uplinks and downlinks in mesh topology from the UniFi dashboard, with real-time visibility of each hop.
  • RF map & spectral analysis — monitor radio frequencies and AP placement for optimal outdoor mesh coverage and troubleshooting.
  • Zero Handoff Roaming — multiple APs act as a cluster so users roam seamlessly across the mesh without renegotiating connections.
  • Guest portal & hotspot — captive portals with voucher, payment, and password authentication, with full custom branding for outdoor public WiFi deployments.
  • Multi-site management — one controller manages multiple distributed deployments, each logically separated with its own config, maps, and admin accounts.
  • Remote firmware updates — push updates to all access points remotely without on-site access.
